I’m really impress with the write up and as such it has added to my database a great deal of knowledge, One thing I always enjoy is the pointing pattern without the thick syllables which makes chanting a smooth singing.

When done well Anglican chant is very beautiful form of Psalm singing. I believe the Psalm chanted on the St. Paul’s Cathedral Cd would by tradition be Miles Coverdale’s version. Don’t know if other folk are familiar with “The Brotherhood Prayerbook” with it’s gregorian chants produced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church, but this uses the KJV psalms.

I know I’m late to this conversation but I wanted to echo thanks for putting this up. I would direct Stuart Rose to the Episcopal hymnal which at the beginning, before the formal hymns, lays out many metrical arrangements for the psalms and is used for many other passages of scripture as well such as the “Magnificat” or collects.

Thanks so much for posting this primer on Anglican chant. One question: you mentioned that your wife and you are learning chants used in the St. Paul’s psalter Cds. I know the recordings-they’re captivating. But how are you learning the chant melodies? Strictly by hear or have you gotten hold of the music? I read in the liner notes of the Cds that John Scott published his psalter a few years ago, but it is out of print. If you can, let me know how I might get hold of the pointed texts and music. Thanks so much.

Allow me to recommend Richard Wurmbrand’s [u]Marx and Satan[/u], (1986). Wurmbrand was a Romanian atheistic Jew until he surrendered his life to Yeshua and became a Christian Jew. Thanks for the input. I have actually engaged an elder in my church (in his formal capacity) on the whole issue. I am trusting this issue can be dealt with redemptively in that context. BTW, thanks for the website. I have realy enjoyed your thoughts….the longing that it stirs in my heart gives me hope.

You’re rights, it’s not a cure, just a tool that helps. And it sounds like it has helped to some extent.

I’m hardly a counselor, but a couple of things: (1) Don’t give up. The battle against sin is a lifelong, often maddening struggle. (2) We sin because we like it in some way, so cultivate competing desires. (3) If Covenant Eyes can’t be installed on your work computer due to security, there may be something out there that can… X3watch? In many places (including my job) they can monitor usage, so consider your career. If you have a closed-door office, perhaps it’d be best to seek work somewhere where you don’t. The point is to keep finding ways to snuff out occasions for sin. It’s key to get out of the habit with any ongoing sin. (4) This seems to me something worth bringing to the attention of one of your elders or the pastor.
